Commissions FAQ

Please note: I am not taking new commissions at this time. However, you can email me directly at with any questions or comments you have!

The time it takes me to complete a portrait depends on its size and complexity. An 8”x10” drawing of one subject can take 1-2 weeks to make while a 16”x20” drawing of many subjects can take 3-4 weeks. Additionally, oil paintings take time to dry and thus have a longer completion time, whereas a drawing does not.

I also have a waiting list anywhere between 1-4 months depending on how many commissions I have.

I will provide you with an estimated turnaround time for your piece when you order a commission.

I pour my heart and soul into every line and brushstroke. My process requires more time and patience than many other products on the market. That is how I achieve a high level of realism and professional quality in my work. In return for your patience, you’ll receive a unique portrait that you can treasure for many years to come.

The sizes I offer are too small to accurately draw or paint a full-body portrait. Portraying the body from the waist-up or chest-up allows me to capture as much detail as possible. Please feel free to contact me to discuss options for full-body portraits!

Yes! If you are commissioning a color portrait we can discuss background colors. My default background for colored pencil portraits is blank/white. If you’d like a specific color, include that in the “Message” section of the commission order form.

Yes, if you provide reference photos for what you’d prefer. I work from photos, so if you’d like certain changes I would need examples of such. If the primary reference photo does not show the subject’s true eye/hair color I can use another photo for reference. This is one reason why I kindly ask for many reference photos.

I’d be happy to look through your photos and discuss options with you. I understand it’s not always possible to have perfect photos of those who have passed away. I will always do my best to work with what you have. You can contact me in advance or attach the photos to your quote request.

Yes, I can remove small items such as a collar and add items such as a toy. If you have a special request please include it in the  “Message” section of the commission order form. Please also include photos of the added items. If the requested items are significant in size or detail, an additional fee may apply.

Shipping cost and time depends on your location and the size of your portrait. I will discuss your shipping charge when we confirm your order. This charge is included in your total.

Once we have confirmed your order, you’ll need to secure your spot in my waiting list with a down payment. You can either pay in full or place a deposit of 50% of your total.

If you choose the 50% deposit plan, the remaining balance will be due after the portrait is complete.

Once you pick your payment plan and method, you’ll be emailed an invoice. You can pay via PayPal, Venmo, or debit/credit card.
